“…Infant feeding is a matter of infant-mother relationship, a putting into practice of a love relationship between two human beings.” – D. W. Winnicott
“Our commitment is to infants and their families, and the professionals working with them. We will continue to work hard to ‘change the conversation’ to one focused on the infant-family relationship, the quality of the infant’s oral feeding skill development, and on building a strong foundation for eating based on pleasurable feeding experiences.”
– Erin Ross, PhD, CCC-SLP, CLC, President, Feeding FUNdamentals LLC and author of SOFFI®.
We strongly believe that eating is a neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral task for infants. For many infants, the ability to eat begins in an Intensive Care Unit, but for all infants these skills continue to develop well after they have gone home from the hospital. We believe early feeding experiences build a critical foundation for a lifetime of pleasurable mealtimes. We believe the NICU environment can build a strong foundation for the infants’ lifetime of eating experiences.
